Looking for great skin care? Beware of Overpriced Spas

Why do I say this? Yes, I was once a spa director/esthetician at a very upscale hotel myself. But, I have discovered that spas have become more "corporate-like" in their approach to services. Most large luxury spas are now run by corporations and the bottom line is profit-- not necessarily great service. Frankly, most spas are run like restaurants--the more often a treatment room is turned over, the more profit, much like a table in a restaurant. Another inside secret, most spas recruit young inexperienced technicians because they will work for lower wages. Also, corporate spas like the young and inexperienced, so the management can "mold" them to their corporate culture--almost a "Stepford Wives" type of mentality. Large spas require their technicians to sell only their products, pity the poor therpist that does not meet her (or his) "sales to service" ratio. If you want professional skin care at affordable prices, try smaller skin care specialists in your neighborhood. These skin care professionals can give you more personalized service and can devote more time to you and your treatment.
